This course will help us understand the different ways we can read and receive a text, and the ways receptions function as communication (or miscommunication). We'll start by defining "reception," and proceed to read selected myths that fall under 4 categories: bodies, gender, voice, status. Each theme was selected because it will help us pinpoint the facet of the character's identity that defines the way they are received. We'll finish the semester by looking at modern receptions of this ancient text to crystallize the ethical import of *the ways* we receive others and their work.
