Section outline

  • For the CWB homework on radicals, some of you might be wondering whether you need to copy all the forms, or just some of them. Here's how you could tell:

    1. For each character/radical, look at the big box first. If you see two different versions in the large font, that means the first one (the one that looks more complicated in most cases) is the traditional version, and the second one is the simplified version. Then, you only need to practice the simplified version.

    e.g. p. 8, the fourth item: 貝 and 贝, you only need to practice 贝。

    2. For items with only one version in the large font, they could come with either one, or two, or three small fonts. 

    • For "1 big font+ 1 small font", you'll practice that version only; (e.g. p.1. the third item: 力)
    • For "1 big font +2 small fonts", practice both small fonts . (This means that this character has two variations when it's being used as a radical.) e.g. p.1, the second item: 刀 (practice 刀 and 刂)
    • For "1 big font + 3 small fonts", practice the first and the third versions in small font. (The middle one in small font is in traditional form, therefore can be skipped). e.g. p. 7, the fourth item,  糸 (practice  糸 and 纟).
