    Some questions you might consider while reading Poe's short story: 

    • What is distinctive/interesting about the narrator's experiences of/relationship to the city? 
    • What to make of the focus on reading the crowd and the stranger?
    • Who is "the man of the crowd"—the narrator or the stranger? Or both? What to make of their uneasy connection? 
    • How to think about the story's attention to visuality and visual detection?
