Weekly Performance Provocations
Weekly Performance Provocations
Each week, rotating groups or individuals will compose a short “performance provocation” that adopts one of the techniques for staging feminist performance from our glossary, generated from that week’s reading. These can be pieces that you show, 2-3 mins in length and need not be polished or finished. These can also be exercises that you lead us through as a class (no more than 15 mins). The aim here is to clarify the strategy you are using: for instance, if your technique is erasure, it should be clear to you who or what is being erased and how your specific choices around erasure connect to the feminist politics of your staging. If you want to lead an exercise exploring fabulation, you might give the class a prompt to "fabulate" with and let us work through it for 10 mins. You may work from a source text or compose a movement sequence. This project should challenge you to think about how dramaturgy directly informs performance.
