Hi! I'm Nancy (she/her). I'm taking this course to fulfill an elective requirement and to help aid me in working with older teenagers (and more specifically, young adults). Last year, I interned at Malvern Behavioral Health in South Philly - an in-patient psychiatric unit for young adults (18-26). This upcoming academic year, I'm interning at Swarthmore College CAPS.

Before coming to BMC, I completed a PhD in Comparative Literature at Penn. I'm very interested in youth/young adult issues around coming of age, grappling with identity, issues of agency (political, personal), and the social/cultural construction of mental illness. I'm particularly interested in existential despair (of the Holden Caulfield variety), anxiety as it relates to despair and politics (climate change, racism), the impact of social media, and cultural pressures to "find one's calling" or "find one's self" that impact later teenagers/young adults.
