I'm really enjoying the Boyd Webb book because she puts many of my observations I've had with youth in the past into eloquent words and conclusions. Most poignant to me is how much she stresses the need for a multilevel approach when working with young people and how she uses a person-in-environment perspective and considers many different aspects of the "environment" including systems/privilege/oppression. I thought about this a lot when I was doing TSS work and the limits of my training, which barely even addressed family engagement. I'm left thinking about how training could be improved to include the person-in-environment analysis for all workers who engage with children but especially mental health workers.
