I absolutely love but and am simultaneously overwhelmed by the complexities of these cases, perhaps because I know they're really not all that uncommon especially with the population of kids I serve. When reading about Amber and how her body reacted physiologically to a trigger as if she had taken opioids, I immediately thought about the work I do and how I've been saying for years these curriculums are not taking into consideration the degrees of trauma our young people are facing. I have done my due diligence of inserting more life skills in helping give adolescence more tools to communicate more healthily, but I wish there were more healthy coping mechanisms to help youth deal with their triggers than just pushing them towards extra-curricular activities they may not be interested in.
