JH met with Maya 5/7/24. Maya is interested in brownfield redevelopment and the community engagement process. She's interested in brownfields because she's from New Hampshire and knows of several historic mill sites that were redeveloped, and she's interested in how the process affects the outcomes. She's thinking of trying to find a case near Philadelphia just so there is access. She is NOT considering Hilco as the case, since it is so large and also not far enough along. We talked about finding some possible comparison cases and that good comparisons have some things in common but some things different, that she wants cases that have reached some level of completion, and that she wants cases that are recent enough there is still information available about the process. She may be interning for a public agency in CT or MA this summer, so she may poke around those locations. She is not sure if she wants to rely entirely on secondary and archival sources or if she wants to interview participants. I told her she would be in good shape if she could figure out over the summer (1) which cases, (2) what topics or aspects she wants to study, and (2) whether or not she needs to talk to people and go through IRB. She said that sounded doable.
