Teens Are in a Crisis. Here's Why;
I really enjoyed this video in terms of it setting up a base for the other readings as it set up a base for adolescent struggle during todays times. What really stood out to me was how the were highlighting this need for transitioning in terms of what is causing youth to be in crisis and how to address it. They mentioned how fears with youth use to lay in them drinking and driving, teen pregnancy and more which while are things to still be aware of they are not at the core of what needs to be addressed. There are new struggles the youth of today face especially when it comes to the prevalence of media and the impact it has on the developing mind. I appreciated that they noted that media is not necessarily the cattails of mental health struggle but the role it plays can be detrimental.
With that questions I had were regarding how media has other impacts of youths struggles such as being an escape and as a method to remove oneself for outsides pains.
Teenagers Are Telling Us That Something Is Wrong With America;
This article especially in relation to the other material for this class helped to highlight the complexity of adolescent in America. As it showed the struggle between self and the outside world. The patients mentioned in the article seemed to all have awareness of the wrongs in America being injustices by the government, inequality imbed in systems around us, the contradictions of the American dream vs reality and all of it was impacting their sense of who they are or who they wanted to be. How can hope for oneself be found and developed in a world that is filled with hopelessness. This was the question that arose from this article for me as the struggle that seemed to be highlighted throughout this article was a sense of being lost, confused and hopeless on the youths part.
