Tina's World Reading

This chapter was very interesting to me because it was very insightful, although disturbing in its accounts of Tina's traumas. Especially how a child could be acting so sexually towards an adult male, and so unconsciously, at that. Some of the questions that I wondered about during my reading were:

What is the code of ethics like for doctors (and more specifically, psychiatrists) and how is it similar or different to the social work code of ethics. Because it seemed like the author was not trained for how to handle that situation, but he thankfully had good instincts.

What would have Tina's experience in therapy been like had she been working with a practitioner who was a woman? Would that behavior ever have been displayed? How could another provider have noticed and helped her?

The author was upset to hear that, years later, the patient was not "healed." Is that even a realistic or a possible expectation to have for the clients we work with? I believe that we empower people to heal themselves. And that there is no true such thing as fixing other people.
