Hi all!
My name is Abbey, and I am a full-time student heading into my second year of the program. I am taking this course because I am interested in working with children and adolescents, specifically individuals who are diagnosed with disabilities or 'behavioral disorders'. I am currently working in behavioral health as a Registered Behavior Technician and implement individualized support plans for children on the Autism spectrum. My interests also include family systems, facilitating opportunities for peer socialization, and utilizing replacement behaviors and coping skills for maladaptive or self-injurious communication styles.
Last year I was placed at Widener Social Work Counseling Center where I was providing individual counseling for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities in addition to community engagement at the ACCESS center, a community organization in Chester, Pa that provides necessities such as food, showers, and laundry as well as group activities such as yoga, knitting, or language classes. My upcoming field placement will be at The Crefeld School with adolescents in grades 7-12.
