I enjoyed watching YouTube. All of them are informative regarding ACEs, especially Dr. Burke Harris’s statement in her interview. When they referred a child for her with a history of ADHD, instead of diagnosing him with the problem he presented, she tried to find out the root causes of his issue. My takeaway from her interview is that first, she stressed that when clinicians interact with a child who has a history of trauma, safety for that child is a priority.  Also, the way she explained how the impacts of trauma change the stress response function and how stable and unstable nurturing relationships change the structure of the brain, as seen in the MRI. She also points out that the high level of trauma impacts impulse control and mental health problems. I understand and agree with her suggestion that ACE screening should be a routine screening.

The second video is Benjamin’s advice to SW on assessing Maya’s case during a chaotic situation. A child with six or more ACE scores will be severely impacted by the trauma and require a multidisciplinary team to address the issue. Benjamin states the three stress types: positive or negative, regular, and toxic. The impacts of these three different stress levels differ from one another.
