Class 5 - "The Mystifying Rise"

The content and readings for today's class have me wondering

1) how does a tolerance for depression in children develop if their symptoms present less like DSM-5 criteria, and more like aggression (or symptoms of ODD)? How does this also take into account the perceptions adults may have of children, thinking that they don't "have" a reason to be depressed?

2) when will it be far out enough from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to assess for the effects this global event had on people, and children specifically for the context of this class? How will research be able to control for other global events, such as on-going wars, to solely observe the effects of the pandemic? Is that possible or realistic?

3) if the world has adapted post-pandemic with a greater inclusion of technology in the workforce and educational space, and with the development of AI, the same question posed above remains -- will researchers be able to control for observing solely the effects of the pandemic on children?
