Hello, folks:

Just an announcement to say I'm looking forward to our first class on Tuesday, September 1st!

I'm Katherine, your instructor for Costume Design 1, and I'm excited to meet you all and get started with our work together soon.

For those of you inclined to poke around a course Moodle page before class begins, I welcome you to do so. I will confess to being brand-new to Bryn Mawr and by extension, Moodle - so know that I am feeling somewhat clumsy while setting this page up for you. Rest assured that we'll cover the syllabus in detail during our first class, and I always appreciate it if questions, inconsistencies, or errors are brought to my attention.

I've included this information in the syllabus, but just in case... I like to send it out in advance of our first meeting as well. The classroom can be tricky to find, so much so that -- I'd actually prefer not to meet there on the first day at all

Here are the instructions for where we'll meet on Tuesday -- IN THE GOODHART LOBBY, not the classroom as posted online:

Ours is a very confusing classroom to find. It is, in fact, so confusing that we won’t meet here on the first day at all. I’d like us, instead, to gather in the lobby of Goodhart Hall, outside the Hepburn Teaching Theatre.

Modern stone and glass addition to the back of Goodhart Hall with students walking by. New materials meets existing stone in hallway corridor and staircase.

From this gathering place on the first day, we will journey together to our classroom. It is an older room which requires the use of stairs to access. If anyone in the class has any kind of mobility-related challenges, please reach out soon – I want to be sure we can be proactive in finding a solution!

On the first day of class, please bring a pen (black is better than blue), a pencil, and a notebook. If you have already peeked at the syllabus and bought a sketchbook - great! Bring that. But for Tuesday's class - a pencil, a pen, and a notebook are ideal.

If you have questions, thoughts, concerns, or great jokes ahead of time -- feel free to reach out.
(Well, actually, great jokes might be better shared in the discussion board below  - does this page facilitate comments? I love silly little dad jokes. You'll endear yourself to me quickly if you've got a good one).

I know I have mentioned that I am excited about this class. I'll mention it again. I am genuinely very enthusiastic and excited to get to know each of you, and start the work of our semester together. Reach out anytime and I'll see you Tuesday afternoon in the Goodhart lobby.

Warmly,
Katherine
