Hello everyone,
I have now posted our syllabus on Moodle. It contains a schedule only for the first half of the course (it's proving difficult to find good reading material for the second half). Otherwise the syllabus is complete. I'm also in the process of populating the Moodle site.
You will see that I have assigned a few items for class on Friday. I don't normally do this, but we need something to talk about! Two are chapters from Empires: A Very Short Introduction, and the third is a short essay of sorts by George Orwell. Please do try to read them all before class. There is also the introduction to a recent edited volume on empires which addresses the problem of definition. This is an optional reading for undergraduates; even if you don't read it now, you might find it helpful to return to it later on in the course.
Let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing you on Friday.
Yours,
Henry
