Hi everyone! My interest in Art History was sparked through my Emily Balch Seminar during freshman year. The seminar was a course titled Making Memory Matter, where we delved into topics from the presentation and space that art works with, to the role of the archive in collective and individual memory. Since then, I have been seeking a mixture of courses that combine theories with their applications. This includes some architecture and fine arts courses that were hands-on as well as some lecture and discussion-based courses, including Nineteenth-Century Art, Latin American Films, Identification in the Cinema, and History of Chinese Art. I was able to take many art history courses on Renaissance Art in Florence when I studied abroad, which was incredibly exciting. In addition to those classes, my two 300 level courses were Race and Theory in the Photographic Archive, and Affect, Art, and Psychoanalysis. These courses were some of my favorites because of the in-depth readings paired with analytic discussions. For my thesis, I would love to focus on the topic of censorship in artistic spaces. I have had this general idea for some time, and I am looking forward to crafting a more specific and focused topic!
