Hi All,
I really enjoyed our discussion regarding Hayles today. As noted in class, because we have gotten a little behind in our discussions, I am shifting what is due next week. I am letting go of one of the short readings. I have updated Moodle, but won't alter the word document (Syllabus). I do want to put it in writing for you, though, to make sure expectations are clear and no one is confused! Next Week's agenda is as follows:
Tuesday
Reading Due: Cavendish- The Blazing World (excerpt assign for last Thursday. Consider listening to the audio version on a walk if you struggled with the first reading. If you do this, consider how what you know of the historical context impacts your reading of the text and how it reflects her society.)
Writing Due:
Response Paragraph 1 Start of class Tuesday, handwritten. (Respond to LeGuin's Preface or Hayles' Prologue- your claim for this response paragraph can be a broader philosophical claim rather than a claim about the text. Note that the response paragraphs in the future will analyze an idea in one of the fictional texts.)
Thursday
Close Reading Continued
Readings Due:
Intro to Freud’s “The Uncanny”
Mori’s Uncanny Valley
E.T.A. Hoffmann “The Sandman” (1816)
(make sure to go get Frankenstein if you have not already! We start reading it next week. Week4.)
