These two programmatic texts provide a foundation for theorizing the panopticon, which is at once a structure for observation and as Foucault will argue, for theorizing shifts in subjectivity when one believes one is being watched. Both texts are different in their scope and aim, but they elaborate on scopic regimes and their connections to control and discipline.
