To best prepare for this exam, review the following:

1.       Possessive pronoun Свой

2.       Unit vocabulary

3.       Phasal verbs (to begin, to continue, to finish + IMPERFECTIVE). The phasal verb itself can be both perfective and imperfective, depending on the context.

-я начинала думать об аспирантуре (IMPERFECTIVE= I kind of had thoughts about graduate school, but nothing serious)

- я начинала заниматься музыкой, но быстро бросила (IMPERFECTIVE=I did started having music classes, but dropped them fairly quickly)

- я начала заниматься музыкой, когда мне было пять лет (PERFECTIVE = I started music classes when I was five).

1.       Verbal aspect in the past.

-           Use imperfective when things changed: Мне раньше нравились исторические романы (imperfective verb in the past denotes that you no longer like historical novels)

-           Use perfective when it is still as it was: Мне понравились исторические романы, когда мне было двенадцать лет (perfective verb in the past means that you sill like historical novels just as much as liked them when you were twelve).
