Consider Farago's claims for the "meanings" that ornament can hold in the context of colonialism and forced conversion: "Otherness is domesticated and familiarized, the grotesque 'idol' is transformed into intriguing exotic decorations, which are at the same time objects of ridicule..." (p. 115-116)
