      Welcome to the Spring Makerspace Intensive. 

      Please use this space to introduce yourself and share a little bit about what kinds of hands-on  or DIY activities or practices you're interested in. Is there something you are especially great at? Are there things you're excited to learn more about? If you share examples of your creative output or investigations, this is also a great place to post a link. I'll include my own introduction below as well.

    Feb 16 Welcome Session Video

    Our zoom meeting was cut a little short after the host duties transferred to our B-camera. 
    Overview-- this was a chance for us to introduce ourselves (we can continue this in the forums here) and start to talk about some of our goals for the next few weeks.

    2/18 Custom Designed Stickers!

    We'll be working in Illustrator (or an open source alternative) to create custom cut/designed stickers and then producing them on our printer/plotter.


    Creating a path or a vector will also allow us to use the laser cutter and CNC router-- for this exercise we'll be considering ways to use our materials economically, so layout is a consideration. 


    A few things to think about: 

    • How are your artistic/design choices informed by your choice of tool? 
    • Knowing that you have a limited amount of material to use, how do you make the most of it? Can you collaborate with peers to maximize your use of space?
    • Are there things that stickers do differently, better, or worse than other kinds of graphic art/design?

      We're all going to prepare a custom cut sticker and produce it on our printer/plotter. As you develop your ideas and designs, please submit them below. If you are interested in collaboration or feedback from the group at large, you can post them in the forum instead. 

      I will begin scheduling appointments for makerspace access (printing and computer use) on Tuesday. 

      Size constraints- everyone should imagine that they have a canvas of 6" x 19" inches-- you can create laptop stickers, one big cutout image, or collaborate with another person to maximize your space. 

      Materials- we have white vinyl and something called Wallflair. You're probably familiar with vinyl as a sticker material, but Wallflair  is a slightly thicker material with a weaker adhesive-- it's meant to adhere to walls/glass/etc without damaging it when it's removed.  *If you plan to use this material to decorate a wall it is your responsibility to make sure that this material is compatible with the wall's surface*

    Friday Drop In Hours

    Join us on Fridays from 2-3pm for drop in hours. We'll use this time to talk about what we're working on-- while there will be occasional demos and troubleshooting, this meeting will be pretty casual. This call will also be open to the campus at large, so while it's not an intensive-specific event, it will be a chance to get to know one another in a less structured environment. 

    Meeting time will almost certainly shift as we figure out what makes the most sense for our community, so don't worry if you can't make this one.
