Hi, my name is Isabelle Meegan and I am a sophomore at Bryn Mawr. I grew up in Newport Beach, California and have spent a great deal of time in and around the costal areas of LA and Orange County. In contrast to Philadelphia and the Main Line, the history of these areas is so much different, not to mention the lifestyle.
Growing up, I spent a great deal of time in and around the Port of Los Angeles. I used to watch the ships anchor off shore awaiting to come in and unload their cargo. This is a very interesting part of the LA area because it is one of the largest ports in the world and is where the US receives the majority of its shipments from Asia. The residential areas around the port are an interesting compilation of technoburbs and suburbs. The aerospace movement created a lot of technoburbs that continue to expand and migrate further from the cities.
