While not directly related to city planning, I recall someone mentioning union Amalgamated Garment Workers Coop housing in Philly and I would love to know more about the labor movement or other social movements there. I remember reading Howard Zinn and he mentioned civic groups in cities uniting against evictions in the Great Depression, I am curious what other organizations like MOVE there were/are.If anyone has documentary or article recs, lmk!
The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America and a couple other unions built a series of housing cooperatives in New York City called Cooperative Village. That was my bad, I should've been a bit more specific. As for social movements, right now there's OccupyPHA, which is fighting for housing and decarceration in the homeless camps.
