Providence Talks reaction

My biggest question watching this video was "what if we just did a better job disseminating information to parents? What if this intervention was explained at the pediatrician's office instead of having the baby wear a monitor that records lexical and conversational information? how do we get this info the the families with the least resources who need it most without sending a social worker to their houses twice a week to meet with them about the number of stars they got on their word charts?"

This class has really done a lot for me in terms of thinking "what if we just did more whole family work where parents were told about best practices instead of waiting for the kid to have problems and need individual therapy?"

I completely agree.  In my full time work, I primary work with students but having done my first field practice year facilitating parenting classes, it is so clear how many families just need the most basic info to get ahead.

Huge agree with both Krista and Christina. There's so much people just don't know, and through no fault of their own - parents often simply don't know what they don't know, and there's no one to tell them otherwise. This starts super early, too - so many women know so little about their own bodies, for example, simply because no one really talks about women's healthcare, especially regarding pregnancy and birthing (which both have major effects on development!!!).
