I benefited from the Meeks article's discussion of setting both group contracts and individual contracts, and sharing the individual contracts with the groups as a way to focus treatment and avoid members hiding behind others and not sharing their presenting problem. I want to know how, beyond setting those contracts, to start a group going and how to make sure it isn't becoming just a social group (although these have benefits as well). I'd like to understand better how the group's work of "recognizing, confronting and resolving interpersonal blocks to group progress." The article didn't go too far into techniques for this, referring to "gestalt technique and psychodrama" and sharing the clinical example of the anxious boy Pat who got blind-folded in the group. But I could use more clear examples of techniques in group work, and also what is "gestalt technique" exactly?
