As someone who's interested in doing group work, I really appreciated this chapter. I was especially intrigued at the descriptions of trauma/bereavement groups. Like Boyd-Webb stated, as we've learned more about the importance in immediate support in preventing the development of PTSD after a traumatic event, groups seem particularly important. I found this chapter to be very practically useful in terms of the instructions/objectives it gave for different kinds of groups as well as the break down of different kinds of groups and what situations are better for either individual or group therapy. The specifics of the 9/11 group and the Banana Split group gave helpful case examples of how to apply the objectives and tasks. My only question is whether the crisis team explained the importance of immediate support to parents before the children trapped in the elevator on 9/11 arrived and if this could've been why most parents did not opt to have their children attend the group. I also wonder if the parents were invited to join the group or not since I can understand why parents would not want to be separated from their child anytime soon.
