Take Away

AA is such a controversial peer-led group. The thing that makes AA effective is accessibility--one can find a meeting any day, anytime, anywhere. Addiction loves isolation and AA provides community and support. It seems that changes within AA are seldom and cause fear amongst members. To some degree that is understandable; AA can be a powerful tool and assist with a successful recovery. Changing it could cause it to loose it's power??? Unfortunately, AA's rigidness and unwillingness to change also isolates members. The Big book is racially oppressive and sexist. BIPOC members shouldn't have their voices dismissed and their recovery compromised. SMART recovery and refuge recovery groups are much more difficult to find.....

I enjoyed the podcast and thank you Lauren for a great presentation!
