Trauma often shapes many aspects of a person’s life and can change a lot about a person-- childhood trauma specifically shapes who a person is as it takes place when a person is still forming their view of the world. Woolf publicly stated in 1939 that she was sexually abused by her half-brothers as a child, although many have cast doubt over her abuse in general, while others have doubted that this abuse had an effect on her work or adult life, I feel it is fair to conclude with the knowledge we have today on childhood trauma and the effects it has on a person’s life, this abuse shaped Woolf and her work in multiple ways. From her advocacy for children in her personal life to how she portrayed childhood and adolescence in her work, the abuse Woolf experienced was a significant contributing factor to her future.
