This photograph decenters humans because the subjects in the photo do not entirely look human with their costumes on which brings in the subject of hybridity. Hybridity can blur the lines of human and post human subjects because they are human in a sense but not all the way as they consist of non human characteristics too. In addition, the outfits look very futuristic for a photo that was taken in the early 1920s which also decenters humans because the concept of time is an important value to humans, and when that is not applicable one can question whether the subjects in the photo are truly human. Also, the photos are very dream like in a sense because one would usually not see these subjects in real life; this distorts reality and in turn displaces the subjects as not being human since the subjects can be considered not real since they look so dream like. Furthermore, since it is a photograph from the early 1920s it means that there are new technological influences. This makes the photo seem more futuristic as one understands that the new wave of technology could influence how humans can look in the future and can change the definition of what humans are, decentering humans as a whole.

Hello Megan, I think this is a great example the costumes do evoke a a sense of hybridity. Despite the subjects of the photos being human the costumes and masks create a juxtaposition. When I Saw this work in the slide show, it instantly reminded me of Picasso's painting Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.

I really like your last sentence there and the point it makes. As technology changes what decenters humans will also change. The futuristic clothing accomplishes that in these pictures but if this clothing was seen as normal and not futuristic that would change.

I agree with your stance on hybridity because the picture creates confusion on whether the creature is human or not. I also agree with the idea that the pictures describe the fight against time. The robot-like structure of the face is an example of what is to come in the future, even though the lower body has very humanistic features.
