This art piece by Remedios Varo Uranga decenters the human by creating an animal-human hybrid and giving the creature extra features. The figure on the left is more animal than human but it still has a human shape with a head, torso, legs, feet, and a human hand. However, it appears more animal than human when you look at its eyes and see that they are owl eyes instead of human like the figure on the right. The figure on the right is a little more human than the owl hybrid but not completely. It has a head, arms and legs but its torso resembles an open flower more than a human body. The head that it holds is partially melded into the center of the flower making the figure seem even less human and more divine. This is further supported by the way the building that the figure is opening the door to looks like it is blended with the forest in the background. The lack of borders between things like the forest and the building, the head and the torso of the figure, and the figure's hair and the air give the image a dreamlike quality, as if the image isn’t quite real.

I really like your deep analysis of the inhuman qualities of the two figures, especially the comparison of the more prominent figure to a flower. The piece sort of tangentially reminds me of Flora and Fauna, the sisters representing plants and animals. Also I literally just noticed but there's a little penguin in their skirt? And they're holding a copy of their own face? Gosh surrealism is wild

This painting freaked me out a bit because of the hybridity and the owl in the mirror. I really liked your analysis with the flower and how it makes it more divine and human like. The texture of both subjects definitely do give off a dream-like reality which can distort realities humans view. Overall, I really liked your analysis of this piece.
