I found the way you talked about the Roseway schools and the K-8 especially very interesting, and how you connected it to Perry and his idea of what a neighborhood unit should be. I went to a K-8 as well but have never really thought about it in those terms - your observation that a K-8 "requires a more heterogeneous population" was thought-provoking, and seems like something that could be interesting to dive deeper into. Most of the students in my K-8 went to the same high school, though the high school was much larger so kids came from more areas, but it wasn't till I got older that I started to realize the complex factors that went into some families' decisions about which high school to send their kids too.
The observation about sidewalks being an important visual difference isn't something that immediately would've come to mind, but you're right about how important a distinction it can be and how much it can say about a neighborhood and how much has been invested in it.
