Jennifer met with Katya on 4/29/24. Katya is interested in public housing but doesn't know what aspect yet. She's interested in Soviet housing but doesn't think her Russian is strong enough to focus her thesis on that. She's more interested in the social/economic/policy side of public housing than the design side. She's interested in public housing residents' perspectives on their quality of life. We talked about how so much of US housing support is provided through various financial incentives rather than directly, and that other countries have different approaches. She's going to poke around on the policy side over the summer, considering possible comparisons with the UK and/or Singapore.
Saw this in my email (if everyone wants, we can try to figure out how to not send notifications. I was thinking: she might actually be interested in 'housing in non-capitalist systems' given the interest in Soviet (there is a TON in English). I can def help with China, also know former Eastern Bloc cases a bit, and she could add others that aren't socialist nation-state based (Basque region is fun, for example).
