Cognitive Therapy with Children and Adolescents Ch 1
I found this text to be really helpful in offering a framework when determining which CBT techniques to implement when working with children and adolescents, specifically the 5 developmental considerations including: initiating treatment, age-appropriately delivery, differing models of cognitive, emotional, and social understanding, role for parents, and therapist style. I appreciate how this chapter highlighted the multifaceted role of both the parents and therapist when implementing CBT therapy. This chapter also highlighted the importance of practitioners having some familiarity with standard social, emotional, and cognitive development processes. Due to the nature of social work, how it spans across various fields and focuses, having a baseline awareness about numerous social issues feels necessary for practitioners. This general depth and reach of social work practice can feel intimidating but is also motivating and exciting.
