I found, "Assessment of the Child Following Crisis: The Challenge of Differential Diagnosis" by Kathleen Nader to be an interesting read. I made a lot of connections from this reading to some of the topics we discussed in our Assessment/Psychopathology class. Nader notes that not all youth exposed to adversity develop problems or psychopathology. Aspects of youth's personality, self-views, and other personal strengths and weaknesses often influence their characteristics reaction to stress.

Nader emphasizes several key points regarding the challenge of assessing children following a crisis, particularly differential diagnosis. When assessing children, it is important to remember that many disorders share common symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and adjustment disorders. When working with children in particular, children's responses to trauma can differ based on their developmental stage. Children with pre-existing psychological or behavioral issues may different symptoms post-crisis. I appreciate how this reading provides case examples with various assessment tools and techniques.
