PTSD presents with a very high rate of comorbidity of disorders. Anecdotally, I also know that some clinicians sometimes misdiagnose the conditions for various reasons when symptoms are blurred between other overlapping disorders that appear superficially alike when correct histories cannot be taken at assessment (eg ADHD for example). The result has serious impact obviously.
It’s fascinating/horrifying how much of research has documented the “neurobiological changes” that have been linked to trauma. For example, studies that documented reductions in brain volume as a result of traumatic experience and the “effect of cognitive behavioral and emotional functioning” (Nader,p.30)
