Meeks (2002)
The text mentions how group therapy is best recommended after the client has experienced at least a few individual psychotherapy sessions. This is interesting to think about, as I always thought of the two as being separate entities -- either someone has individual sessions, or they're a part of a group. After reading the text, it does seem like an effective idea, not just for pre-assessment purposes for the group, but also for the client to have a chance to process the things that are arising in group. I see value in this process of individual and group sessions being effective for both types of group sessions (closed vs. open), but a bit more so for the closed exploratory group vs. the open-ended supportive group, as it seems like the therapist in the supportive group is more of a facilitator than a leader in comparison to the exploratory group.
TedX "What Adolescents Need to Thrive"
I really enjoyed this video, as it was a new Tedx for me. It's interesting how Charisse touched on spirituality as being a protective factor for healthy well-being and similarly, the "gems" she mentions are all characteristics that can be found within Christianity. I wonder if she and thought leaders alike would advocate that some form of spirituality is what adolescents "need" to thrive.
