Dear Revolutionaries,
My name is Ben Van Zee and I am your professor for HISTB226 “Modern Europe, 1789-1915.” I am now setting up our Moodle page, and I’ll let you know once the syllabus is posted. In the meantime, I have posted a couple of brief readings (roughly 20 pages total) and two podcasts for you to prepare for our first class. They can be found in Moodle under “Week 1” materials. If you have any issues accessing Moodle, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Since this survey of Nineteenth-Century Europe will be centered around radical and revolutionary thought, politics, and culture, we’ll start with the French Revolution. During our first session (on September 1st), we will explore the world of pre-revolutionary France (often referred to as the “Old Regime” Ancien Régime) and the social, cultural, intellectual, and gender transformations that led up to the revolution.
