Hi all,
So great to meet you today! Thanks for your contributions to the class -- I am excited about this semester.
Following up with a few logistical notes:
- New classroom: As I mentioned, starting next week, we will meet in Park 328, which is a round-table format classroom with lots of light and trees outside the window -- better for an EJ class.
- Research project proposal: Now due September 23 rather than 16.
- Syllabus updates: I have posted an updated syllabus and assignments description docs reflecting these two changes to Moodle. I also fixed my office number (I had a typo).
Then a note about readings. Each week, first take a look at the syllabus (Section 10, Course Readings) to see what you need to read and how it fits into the course topics. For example, next week I have given instructions in the syllabus about which pages of each reading to actually read vs. what you can skim. If any readings are online, I will put a link to them on the syllabus, but not on the Moodle page (so for next week, this is the case for the Principles of Environmental Justice document). Then go ahead and do the readings: if they are not in the textbook or linked to in the syllabus, they will be on Moodle --> Readings. If you are ordering a physical copy of the textbook (recommended) it may not arrive on time, so you will need to read the Holifield et al reading using the library's online version, or I have posted a scanned copy on Moodle.
Then some weeks, I will post questions for you to think about as you read. I have done this for next week's readings on the final slides of the presentation I used today, which is available on Moodle --> Presentations. Please take careful notes as you read of any questions or comments you have, for us to discuss in class.
Lastly, next week I will give a citations tutorial, including showing you how to use Zotero. In preparation for this, please download Zotero to your laptop and bring it with you to class. Instructions for how to access Zotero are on the library webpage here: Bryn Mawr / Haverford. If you don't have access to a laptop, please let me know.
