To what extent should an author keep the audience in mind when creating a text?

I found the part about how all of our understandings of ancient texts include the perspectives of other people's understandings before us. There are interpretations that have entered the cultural zeitgeist and we have subconsciously absorbed, like Virgil and Homer. There is also the fact that we rely on other experts when trying to understand a text ourselves, which of course carries their own worldviews.

"We all approach the reading of texts with the baggage of our values and our experience...to have such baggage is what it is to be a human being in history."
