Domains of Surveillance

In my opinion, the government and military have been the greatest contributors to "surveillance studies" and the practice of surveillance. I believe that they have access to any common form of surveillance, like Instagram which gives them an inside look into our personal lives. I feel like it is a common view that the government is heavily surveilling citizens, and I don't feel like I can think of any forms of surveillance that are particularly overlooked.

What particularly interested me about the readings was the mentioning of surveillance in the workplace. In a class that one of my friends took last year, she wrote a paper on the Amazon corporation, which exposed the treatment of the employees. I think that this is a good example of surveillance in the workplace, because of the rules put in place to control their ability to have working rights. These rules include ideas like being unable to interact with new people, because that implied the formation of a union, which would create a loss of power for those in charge of the different locations and the company as a whole.
