Blog Post # 1: Please respond to the following prompt by 5:00 pm on Friday, September 4

Thinking very broadly, I believe I try to take at least some piece/ component of new understanding from every class I take, so it is hard for me to narrow down my interest both in the HART department and other disciplines. However, I will say that - while I have not yet taken a course in Baroque art at this school-  it is thus far my favorite variety to look at when it comes to both paintings and architecture. Courses I have taken, which precede that movement/ type (Medieval & Renaissance art) have deepened both my interest and understanding, at least in some relative sense. As a painter/sculptor, it (Baroque art) is also one of my favorites to observe in a more artistic, perhaps less clinical manner. It was, in fact, through my practice as an artist that I have become interested, more specifically, in the Auricular style - both in furniture (such as frames) and metalworking. Beyond knowledge that I have gained from more historical courses, I have enjoyed immensely the approaches to connotation that are applied in the film classes I have taken. I find it really satisfying to break down the technical components that go into the process of making, and analyzing those through diverse frameworks (such as psychoanalytic). I also took a Contemporary Art course based in Philly, and really enjoyed the discussions, very generally, on space - how it shapes us and how we see. I am currently taking History of Chinese Art and I am excited to see how I may apply what I learn in that class to future observation.
