Greetings, all! I'm Bronwen, the Makerspace Coordinator and I'll be hanging out here to support any/all questions about the craft side of creating books. The Makerspace is located in Park 157.
I have a background in printmaking and experience teaching several bookbinding techniques (though it's been a while since I worked in those areas professionally, so I am excited to follow along with your readings and review things for myself!).
Below you can see some of the resources and support you can find in the Makerspace. We will also be ordering additional supplies based on interest/needs of this class:
- Printmaking supplies and equipment. These include:
- a Risograph printer
- a relief printing press
- a book binding press
- (on order) small letterpress
- (on order) modular type stamping system
- needles, book thread, punches/awls, etc
- rulers, squares, other measuring tools
- exacto knifes and cutting mats
- inks, paints and dyes
- paper, book cloth, mat board
- PVA and starch-based glues
- paper making screens
We expect to visit your class once or twice during the semester for demos and a "warm-up" book binding exercise, but you are always welcome to come to the Makerspace to explore on your own, and/or schedule a consult to discuss project ideas, etc. The best way to schedule directly with me is by using this link:

The Makerspace has drop-in hours every day except for Mondays. We are still finalizing some of our evening hours, but expect to start our full schedule next week. I will update with a link to those hours as soon as they are posted.
Looking forward to being a part of this lab!
