I think this is a fun visualization just because it’s very straightforward and also pretty relatable. At first glance, it may seem like there’s not that much to take away from the data besides comparing with your friends to see who has a more uncommon birthday. However, this visualization also reveals things such as seasonal patterns in reproduction and raises questions such as why December birthdays are resoundingly uncommon. Granted, there isn’t all that much you can extract from this data, but despite it not being extremely useful, I believe the visualization is extremely strong in conveying the data it shows. This is especially due to the fact that there’s a gradient that is also labeled for every data point, so you don’t have to guess whether one shade of blue is darker or lighter than another.
