Prompt: People respond to change in different ways. Some people tend to actively embrace and adapt to change, while others tend to resist change and prefer stability and familiarity. Which type of person are you? What do you want your readers to understand about embracing change or resisting change? Use specific experiences from your own life to develop and support your argument.

In my life, things tend to be hectic and sometimes I am unsure of what will happen next but I always accept and embrace the change. Throughout my life I had to accept the fact that life is changing and when I was 8 years old my brother was separated from me. My mom was unable to take care of two kids plus her own parents so my dad took my brother to New York and they lived together there. I deeply missed my brother as he was the only one who I could talk to and him being gone made my life lonely as during that time I didnt have many friends. I had to accept the fact that someone I loved was taken from me physically and through that I was able to learn how not to be afraid when alone and grow to be open minded about the circumstance.

Furthermore, there was another time when I had to embrace change which was when I discovered about my sexuality and my identity has a gay person. I found out that I was attracted to the same sex and this was a little uncomfortable at first but I eventually learned how to accept it. My family is not a big fan of the LGBT and since my brother was also gay, he was shamed and my family didn't approve that about him. Though my family pressured me not to be like my brother, I am in fact gay and that is me, I went through moments of finding myself through embracing my identity and learning from what it means to be different. Im not strange or abnormal, I am myself but I project myself differently than others because I found out who I am through embracing the change. It is a personal growth that cannot happen if I don't accept what is happening in the moment.

Therefore, both trying to fit in as a gay person in my family and learning from the experience of being stripped of someone important (physically, like living with me) has taught me that change is inevitable and you can learn a lot from those moments. When my brother left me I was weak and needed someone who understood me to be with me but I overcame that by making friends and learning to be independent. On the other hand, accepting myself as a member of the LGBT taught me how to grow as a person both emotionally and mentally on how to work with people. These are important lessons that life teaches you when a disturbance in your life happens causing the change. You can become more mature and a better person if you learn from it, that's my point, change helps you grow in life as a human in society.

Thank you for sharing! Although I don't identify with the LGBTQ community, I could relate a lot to your story. Being raised by Nigerian parents who are extremely religious and against the community, I also had a hard time being able to express my vulnerabilities with them and carried a burden because I know they were raised with a rigid and strict mentality. That sense of isolation can make you feel so alone and hide the truest parts of yourself just to make peace. That was something that I had to unlearn as I got older. Recognizing that your parents' strictness is a byproduct of your upbringing, but still choosing to embrace who you are is something you should be very proud of! You are breaking a cycle for future generations.
