Hi! I'm Katie Schroeer (rhymes with lawnmower) and I'm a first year at Bryn Mawr. I'm on Pem East 2nd this year and I live in Northfield, Minnesota, and before that in Minneapolis. I love to run, cross-country ski, and sing - I'll be in Chorale this semester (and hopefully more music here in the future!). I'm also really interested in and passionate about all things climate action and climate justice, and I hope to get involved here on campus however I can with orgs like Sunrise.

I'm interested in majoring in either environmental studies or Cities (or maybe both, who knows) and I'm particularly interested in how the two intersect and how we can make our systems and cities more sustainable and just. I'm super excited to meet you all in class and as Rachel put it, I'm in the market for new friends :) so please reach out and I'd love to get to know you!

I did this before the first class and didn't really talk about my city - I really like Northfield's small seasonal festivals and community events, like the farmer's market, Winter Walk, Defeat of Jesse James Days (weird, yeah), or theater productions and art installations - things that bring people together in public spaces and make Northfield feel like its own unique, interesting place. I'm worried about downtown/the center of cultural and economic activity being so close to an increasingly flood-prone river, and Northfield also has a problem with much of the immigrant community and poorer residents being segregated off to a less well-maintained, less accessible, rarely visible part of town.
