Hello everyone! My name is Kate Southerland and I am from Johnson City, Tennessee. I will be studying remotely this semester and hope to be on campus in the spring! I am excited to be a be in this class as I have always been interested in how cities function. I am also an avid travel/geography lover and enjoy reading National Geographic Traveler in my spare time. Before I moved to Johnson City, I lived in the suburbs of Nashville. Even though Johnson City and Nashville are in the same state, it is interesting to note that both areas have very different cultures. Although I lived in Nashville, I consider Johnson City to be my home. While I have been here, I’ve enjoyed the scenic beauty as well as the cuisine. One of my favorite desserts from this area are Amish doughnuts from Auntie Ruth’s.

I think it's really cool that you have some Amish around your hometown. I used to live in Missouri and have very fond memories of eating Amish candies and snacks with friends from the market. I don't hear many people talk about stuff like that.
