Intermediate Modern Questions

Choose ONE question to answer. No more than one page each. Please submit on Moodle by below due dates.

  1. What movement skills, concepts, or qualities would you like to work on this semester? What movement skills, concepts, or qualities do you already love to do? What are your goals and how can this class help you?
  2. How do you transition in and out of class? Do you have a pre-class routine? Post-class routine? How has this class changed the way you approach and appreciate dance? How has this class changes the way you approach and appreciate other experiences outside of class?
  3. Vocabulary list: List 20-25 actions/verbs or phrases you have come across in the class. Comment on the ones you have found interesting or unusual. i.e.: curve, spiral, bend, reach, recover, fall, shift)
  4. Pick one of these words and write about it in relation to your recent classes: Exploring, practicing, clarifying, alignment, strength, spatial awareness, dynamic changes, variety, ease, flow.
  5. Apply a “tool” from class to the routine of your day. i.e.: initiation, sequencing, dynamic shift, symmetries and asymmetries, etc.
  6. Gesture movement lives all around us. Find three moments in your week, where you have witnessed pedestrian gestures as choreography. Describe and explain their importance.
  7. Is there a particular professional choreographer or dancer that peaks your interest? Who is it, and what draws you to them? How can you connect the movement in our class to the movement you see when watching them?
