I am a little nervous about entering a field that I am not familiar with. I have experience working and talking to children through my summer internship at the Safe Passage Project, helping undocumented kids file SIJS applications. However, when it comes to interacting with a whole cohort of kids in a classroom setting, there are rules and expectations that might take me time to learn. Although I do not have a confirmed placement, I do hope its at the school in South Philly, so that I get to exercise my Spanish. I am also worried about the commute. The only day I am available to work is Thursday morning, but then I have a class at 1:10 PM. Given how many times SEPTA has been delayed, I do hope I get scheduled in the early morning giving me roughly an hour and a half to get back on campus. At the same time, I am really excited to learn and experience something new. Whether it be being in a classroom with elementary students or middle school students, I want to be more knowledgable about how the education system impacts students differently. Now that I am an adult and have read about the pitfalls in the education system I feel like I have a better understanding of what to look out for that I might not have had when I was a kid in elementary/middle school.
