I am going to FACTS, and I'm super excited. I got the opportunity to have a quick tour last semester for my Asian-American Lit class. I'm super excited to be able to work with students and staff who also speak Chinese. Not only that, I would love to see what other languages students speak there. I think this is a perfect chance for me to improve my Chinese, as growing up, I've spoken less. 

I don't really speak that much Chinese at home (though I'm working on speaking more!), so I'm anxious about the fact that when I try to practice my Chinese skills or when I'm trying to help translate something for a student, I won't be able to because of my lack of knowledge. 

Since I'm going to FACTS, I will definitely take the time to check out their website.

I share the same anxiety/fear about not being able to translate or express something because of a lack of knowledge in a second language. Although I don't know my placement school yet, I will probably be assigned to Southwark, since I speak Spanish. I think it would be a perfect opportunity to practice my Spanish skills, but at the same time I am nervous about how effectively I will be able to fulfill my role if I sometimes don't know the right words for certain things. Also, the fact that Spanish can look different for different students depending on their background, so I will have to be extra mindful of what I say to make sure the students understand me. I am also nervous about what role I should play and the expectations the teacher might have of me. What would you say is the best approach to working in a classroom where you will be speaking a different language for the first time? Would I be a hindrance to teachers? Or would I actually be able to provide support for both teachers and students? Sorry, this was just me sorting out my thoughts, but let me know if you share these same feelings so we can talk a little bit more about how to make the most of our internship experiences!
